Wow! Flickr now shares videos!

What a week. On April 9, Flickr announced and started its video sharing program.

Video on Flickr!

Video! Video! Video! The rumours are true and “soon” is now. We’re thrilled to introduce video on Flickr. If you’re a pro member, you can now share videos up to 90 glorious seconds in your photostream.

90 seconds? While this might seem like an arbitrary limit, we thought long and hard about how video would complement the flickrverse. If you’ve memorized the Community Guidelines, you know that Flickr is all about sharing photos that you yourself have taken. Video will be no different and so what quickly bubbled up was the idea of “long photos,” of capturing slices of life to share.

So where do you start? Flickr has a great FAQ page set up with quick instructions and explanations about the new service.

To see what videos are out, you can go to the Flickr Video! Video! Video! Group—but to get a video up on that group page is still by invitation only. So just wait a bit, and I’m sure Flickr will send you your invite soon!

I faved the video above because I’ve had this liking for miniatures and small things the past few weeks, as you can tell in my tilt-shift photography post and attraction to Moo minicards.

Take your time and go through the 100+ videos already posted on the video group page. Find your fave of the moment. And let me know what you think about videos on Flickr!
