I’m proud to report that I’m making progress with my lifestyle redesign project. When I started evaluating the time sucks in my life back in January, I realized that one huge time waster was shopping. I’m not talking about clothes shopping or shopping around the mall. In fact, I try to avoid the mall at all costs and only brave its stores when absolutely necessary (like when my dress pants start feeling paper thin or when my sweaters get too pilly… I hate those fuzz balls!). The shopping that drives me nuts is the household shopping, especially when it’s done last minute or as a result of an emergency. “Help! I need toilet paper!” Buying groceries isn’t so bad, but that’s because we’ve got an EarthFare close to our home. It’s great for fresh, local food, and we usually grab a week’s worth of groceries at a time. The problem is that EarthFare doesn’t carry all of the non-food items that we need. And, unfortunately, Target is a bit farther away — and I can’t to go to Walmart. Sometimes I get really flustered there, and I can’t stand going up and down huge aisles, trying to maneuver around slow or indecisive people.
So what’s the solution? Amazon Subscribe & Save. Brandon and I had been interested in participating in the Amazon Subscribe & Save program. For those of you who haven’t heard of it before, you get a discount and free shipping on items that you sign up to receive periodically.
Why keep running out? Our Subscribe & Save program offers an extra 15% off and free shipping on items you routinely use and keeps them coming every one, two, three, or six months. You can change your delivery schedule or cancel at any time.
After checking out the thousands of items that were eligible for the Subscribe & Save program, we decided to join. After all, we would be saving money from the bulk purchase (just like you would if you went to Costco or Sam’s Club) — plus, we would have our household supplies delivered to our door on a regular schedule. No more last minute runs to the store! Woohoo! Joining the program is easy. Just check out these steps.
I made my first subscription/order last week, and the packages arrived just a couple of days later. (Amazon shipping is fast!) I subscribed to toilet paper, paper towels, and Swiffer Wet Mopping Cloths. Yes, I love my Swiffer Sweeper. I’m looking forward to adding more items to my subscription. I found coffee filters, cat litter, dishwashing detergent, laundry detergent, fabric sheets, toothpaste, tons of organic food products, and so much more. Plus, you get charged only when your shipment ships — so you can easily manage your delivery schedule and budget. Or if you decide that you don’t need a certain item anymore, you can cancel your subscription to that item at any time. Like Amazon says, “No commitments.” I love Subscribe & Save! Hopefully I’ll be able to automate the purchase and delivery of as many household supplies as possible and buy all of my food locally (either from EarthFare or the Farmers Market). Gotta love using technology to save money and time!
