I ventured out with some friends to Shuck Raw Bar & Ale in downtown Knoxville for a feast of raw oysters. I'm a fan of oysters on the half shell, so I was very excited when this place opened up in the spring. And it's only minutes away from my house.
I decided to get my raw oyster prepped "chimi" style -- topped with jalapeno, lime, and cilantro chimichurri sauce. It had the perfect amount of spice to it. We also got an order of the house oysters, which were Virginia oysters. Brandon went with the fish tacos. The raw oysters make him nervous.
While we were eating, a man sitting across from us was served this amazing plate with layers of seafood and pico de gallo. I had to ask what it was.
"It's called The Tower," he said. And without a pause, I asked the waiter for The Tower.
The Tower has layers of shrimp, lump crab, pico de gallo, avocado, romaine lettuce, and a honey chipotle dressing drizzled all over. It was bursting with flavor and texture, and the entire plate was devoured in under five minutes.
I'm absolutely looking forward to heading back, and I'm eager to try some of their ceviche and steamed seafood. Maybe next time I can convince Brandon to try a raw oyster or two.
