If you know me or followed my blog for any amount of time, you know that I'm an aspiring locavore and an evangelist for community supported agriculture. This spring will be my third year as a CSA shareholder with the Colvin Family Farm, and I absolutely cannot wait for the season to get started. Especially because I'm going to work on the farm. Virtually. [Check out the official announcement on the farm's website and on the Colvin Family Farm Facebook page.]

I won't be growing, tending, or harvesting the veggies. I won't be getting blisters on my hands or operating any machinery. So maybe "farmhand" is a bit of an inflated title. But I will be providing weekly recipes and tips and tricks for being a CSA shareholder here on my website and on the Colvin Family Farm CSA Forum. Whether you're new to the CSA program or have been a shareholder for years, hopefully I'll be able to provide you with some ideas on what to do with your weekly share, ways to prep and cook your produce, and info on how to store and preserve fruits and veggies. And I'll always be sure to point out exactly what's in the bushel -- because sometimes that's the hardest thing to figure out. Believe me. (Do you know what pattypan squash is? I know now.)

I'll be joining two other "farmhands" this season -- Betsy and Kristina -- who are seasoned shareholders and will undoubtedly have great advice on what to do with all the fresh produce from the Colvin farm. And together we want to help people figure out how to eat their CSA.

So stay tuned for more information as we get closer to the start of the season. I'll be writing some posts about how to get ready (i.e., tools of the trade) and giving some link love to great online resources for shareholders. In the meantime, check out Betsy's guest post on the Colvin Family Farm Blog about investing in a CSA. It's an excellent look at the risks and rewards of being a shareholder. Enjoy!
