It's the third week of CSA season from Colvin Family Farm, and I noticed that my produce box was feeling a little heavy as I carried it back from the Colvin's stand to my car at the Dixie Lee Farmers Market. Why? Because SQUASH. Yum. :)

Here's the full list:

  • Yellow squash (x7!!!)
  • Cucumbers (x2)
  • Globe zucchini
  • Russian red kale
  • Bok choy
  • Lettuce (x2)
  • Green garlic
  • Spring onions
  • Turnips*

*Note: I THINK those are turnips. I scrubbed the bulbs, and they look like white/purple and smell like turnips. (Which smell like radishes.) If you know what they really are, please tell me. For now, I'm going to say turnips. I'm sure they'll taste good roasted in olive oil and seasoned with sea salt and cracked pepper. You can't really go wrong with that cooking method.

I'm happy I still got some kale and lettuce with this pickup. But I know that the time for leafy greens is almost over, and soon I'll need to start bringing my little rolling cart to the market to carry off the heavier veggies. Eating with the seasons is exciting, and I love seeing the mix of produce change with each week's share.
